A bright, clean monoazo yellow delivering very high opacity, excellent colour strength, and outstanding gloss in decorative and architectural paint formulations. The leading yellow for water-based paints and seed colorants, combining vibrant hue with cost-effective performance across a wide range of applications.
Pigment Yellow 74 is the leading choice for decorative water-based paints and architectural coatings, where its brilliant hue, high opacity, and excellent gloss are unmatched at its price point. In full shade, lightfastness is good (ISO 6–7). However, at very low loadings in tinting pastes or pale tints, lightfastness can drop — always test under your specific conditions before specifying for exterior architectural tinting systems. Heat stability is rated to 180 °C, making it suitable for polyolefins and PVC but not for engineering polymers above this temperature.

The primary application for PY 74. Very high opacity and outstanding gloss performance in water-based emulsion paints. Excellent compatibility with acrylic and PVA binder systems for interior and light exterior decorative use.
Used in interior and moderate-exterior architectural coatings where full-shade lightfastness is required. Delivers consistent, high-chroma yellow finishes for feature walls and decorative facades.
Widely used in flexographic, gravure, and offset inks for packaging and commercial printing. Bright, clean yellow shade with high colour strength reduces ink usage. Good compatibility with waterborne and solventborne ink vehicles.
Suitable for polyolefins, PVC, and styrenic resins at processing temperatures up to 180 °C. Used for indoor plastic goods, toys, stationery, and packaging. Verify heat stability for engineering polymers — PG 7 may be more appropriate above 180 °C.
Economical yellow for paper surface coatings, board colouration, and packaging substrates. High tinting strength delivers uniform colour at low loadings in aqueous coating formulations.
Used in binder-based pigment printing and padding systems for cotton and polyester fabrics. Bright, clean yellow tone for fashion and home textile applications. Apply with a suitable crosslinking binder for best wash fastness.
Pigment Yellow 74 is one of the most widely used pigments for agricultural seed coating — the process of applying a coloured polymer film to seeds before planting, primarily for variety identification and phytosanitary status marking. The bright, distinctive yellow shade of PY 74 is easily identifiable in the field and compatible with standard aqueous seed treatment film-coating systems.
PY 74 is supplied primarily as dry powder. For aqueous paint and ink applications it should be milled into the binder system using a high-speed disperser or bead mill. Contact us to discuss custom grades including surface-treated variants for specific performance requirements.
